Introduction
Department of Art & Design is one of the leading art departments in Sindh. The graduate degree of Art and Design includes studio practice and theoretical studies. There are two major areas at the undergraduate level of this program. Fine Arts and Textile Design. Fine Arts offers Painting, miniature painting, Sculpture and printmaking as major fields of study, whereas Textile Design offers Textile design, and future programs Interior design, Graphics design, Ceramic Design and Architecture, etc. Department of Arts and Design conducts workshops and seminars every semester, also invites Keynote speakers and various Professionals for Juries, Critique and Art discussions. Students and teachers are highly committed to participating in art competitions, workshops, exhibitions and seminars in the country and abroad.
As a matter of fact, the world is difficult to understand if there is no art and the world seems meaningless and perplexing without art. Since art enables individuals to express their imaginations, it becomes extremely significant to impart the insights of art among students. Concerning teaching art, it is an established fact that teaching art develops creative, self-expressive and innovative people with strong aesthetic sense. Undoubtedly art has a monumental impact on a particular culture and society. In order to promote culture and aesthetic among the individuals, it is imperative to establish the teaching of art which is the need of this modern era in which the world has driven itself towards materialism. Therefore, art stands as consolation to the creative souls.

The Department of Art and Design will lead to promote the art by fostering critical & creative thinking, artistic expression, effective communication, cultural awareness. To produce best artists and designers who are empowered to create with profound and practical impact in terms of employment & community service.
Mission
The Department of Art & Design is an artistic and intellectual community that fosters creative thinking and lifelong learning. We prepare individuals for professional careers in the areas of visual art and design. Our faculty guides aspiring artists and designers to build both theoretical and practical foundations, and encourage personal development in art, design, and the humanities.
Our mission is to enable students to learn and to enhance their aesthetic sense skills so that they can work in the field of Fine Arts and Designing. Besides, it aims at providing the learners with a sort of motivation through theories and technical skills to deeply indulge in art, attain expertise and subsequently establish their own business and render their services for the promotion of Art which has remained ignored and unattended.

Visit of HEC Chairman
The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Islamabad, Pakistan, Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), paid his first-ever visit to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad. Along with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Madad Ali Shah and the deans of various faculties, he visited the art exhibition at the Department of Art & Design. During the visit, he praised and encouraged the work of students and faculty. On this occasion, Professor Manzoor Mangi and the Head of the Department, M. Hussain Chandio, presented him with a portrait painting as an honor.
Thesis Exhibition - 2025
The 1st thesis display of the Department of Art and Design was successfully inaugurated by the worthy Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Madad Ali Shah, along with the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, prof. Dr Tayba Zareef. Manzoor Siyal Director Procurement, Sohail Soomro Registrar, Tufail Ahmed Memon Director Admission and the faculty members of various Departments. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the work of the graduating students and the department’s faculty for organizing such a wonderful display. Distinguished guests, parents, and SSP Shabir Ahmed Sethar visited the display and acknowledged the efforts made by the university.
Pakistan Mother Languages Literature Festival 2026 at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) Islamabad
The Department of Arts and Design actively participated in Pakistan Mother Languages Literature Festival 2026 at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), located in Islamabad. This participation was strategically aligned with the department’s academic vision of integrating theoretical knowledge with practical exposure and professional development. The visit was carefully planned to provide students with experiential learning opportunities within a nationally recognized cultural institution, allowing them to understand how academic concepts are translated into professional artistic practice.

Sindh Art Exhibition held at the Sindh Museum..
The students and faculty proudly participated in the Sindh Art Exhibition held at the Sindh Museum. The exhibition provided a remarkable platform to showcase artistic talent, creativity, and cultural expression through diverse artworks. Students displayed their skills with confidence while faculty members contributed through their professional guidance and artistic presence. The event encouraged creative interaction, appreciation of art, and promotion of Sindhi culture and heritage, making it a valuable learning and exhibition experience for all participants.
